Use BuildRules as a starting point, not an approval.

BuildRules organizes published building, renovation and property information and connects people with companies that may help with a project. Municipal authorities, regulators and qualified professionals remain responsible for approvals, licences, professional opinions and project-specific decisions.

Information and Property Briefs

BuildRules can summarize public guidance, mapped information and questions worth resolving. A guide or Property Brief is not a permit, zoning certificate, legal opinion, architectural or engineering opinion, construction drawing, code-compliance review or guarantee that a project can proceed.

Permit Readiness Briefs

A Permit Readiness Brief is a paid research and preparation service. BuildRules organizes published municipal guidance, source references and practical preparation steps for the property and project information supplied during checkout or the verified post-payment intake.

If BuildRules determines that adequate source coverage is not available to prepare a useful brief for the purchased scope, the purchase should be refunded. Other cancellation or refund requests are considered based on whether personalized research has already started and any rights that apply under applicable law.

Directory company submissions

If you submit or manage a company profile, you confirm that you are authorized to provide the information and that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge. You grant BuildRules permission to store, moderate and display the submitted company name, description, logo, service areas, specialties and other profile information for operation and promotion of the directory.

Submission does not guarantee publication, indexing, ranking, verification, leads or continued inclusion. BuildRules may reject, suspend, correct or remove listings that are irrelevant, misleading, abusive, duplicated, outdated or inconsistent with directory standards.

Claimed, Verified, Featured and Sponsored are different

Claimed means an approved account can manage a company profile. Verified is a separate BuildRules review state and cannot be purchased. Featured is an editorial or operational designation controlled by BuildRules. Sponsored is paid placement and is labelled as such. A paid plan does not create Verified or Featured status.

None of these labels guarantees licensing, insurance, workmanship, code compliance, availability, pricing or a project outcome. Users remain responsible for the due diligence appropriate to the work being hired.

Directory memberships

Free listings can use the features described on the directory pricing page. Pro and Sponsored are recurring subscriptions processed by Stripe when billing is enabled. Subscription access is controlled by verified Stripe subscription status. Companies can use the Stripe billing portal made available in their BuildRules workspace to manage payment details or cancellation when that feature is available.

Sponsored inventory affects labelled visibility only. It does not change municipal guidance, search-quality gates, BuildRules verification decisions or editorial designations.

Leads and professional relationships

BuildRules can forward a user’s project request to the company profile selected by that user. BuildRules does not guarantee that a provider will respond or that either party will enter a contract. Any quote, scope, contract, payment, licence check, insurance check or professional engagement is between the user and provider unless BuildRules explicitly states otherwise.

Profile changes and moderation

Owner-submitted changes can be held for staff review before replacing the public version. Material identity changes, including a website change, can require re-verification. A profile can be reported for inaccurate, outdated, abusive or impersonating information.

BuildRules badges

Badges describe the current status of the linked BuildRules profile. A company may display the provided badge voluntarily. Installing a backlink is not a condition of listing, ranking or verification. Companies must not alter a badge or describe BuildRules in a way that implies a certification or endorsement that the profile does not have.

Acceptable use

Do not use BuildRules to impersonate another business, submit deceptive information, scrape or overwhelm the service, distribute malware, harvest contact information, manipulate search rankings, or interfere with other users. BuildRules may limit or suspend abusive activity.

Information changes

Municipal rules, fees, processes, maps and company information can change. Consequential decisions should be confirmed with the responsible authority, provider or qualified professional before money or construction decisions are committed.
