Ontario Permit Cost & Timeline Index
Before you budget the permit,
check the city.
There is no single Ontario building permit price or approval date. Compare the published project guidance for each municipality, then open the original source before filing.
Compare project costs and timing
Start with the work you're planning.
Every note is drawn from a published BuildRules project guide. A blank dollar figure means no reliable fixed amount is provided in that guide—not that the permit is free.

Important: municipal permit fees may depend on the precise scope, construction value, area, additional charges and current fee schedule. A target review period is not an approval promise; incomplete applications, zoning and applicable-law reviews can change the timing. This index does not replace an official municipal quotation or decision.
Now make it property-specific
The same project can have different constraints at two addresses.
Use the property check to see the municipal route and available zoning context, then review the official instructions for the proposed work.
Understand what the index is showing.
Are these guaranteed permit fees?
No. The notes reproduce available reviewed guidance from the relevant municipal guide. Actual fees are set by the municipality and depend on the application.
Does the processing timeline include every approval?
Not necessarily. Zoning, variances, other applicable-law reviews, missing documents and inspections can follow different processes. Check the official source for your exact proposal.
Why don't some rows show a dollar amount?
Because BuildRules does not invent a number when a verified fixed fee is not available for that project. Follow the municipal source and ask the issuing authority for the current fee schedule.
