City of Waterloo Building Standards Clerk Danielle Hacioglu confirmed the project classification directly in writing on October 29, 2026 (BuildRules staff Gmail thread 1a188250930dfead): Waterloo's building-demolition page accidentally says 'addition' in its review-time paragraph, but the 10-business-day figure is the correct provincially mandated FIRST REVIEW period for a complete demolition BUILDING permit application. The City requested correction of that typo. Its current demolition-building-permit fee is $132 for a building under 10,000 sq. ft. A proposal to demolish any residential unit requires separate demolition-control approval first. A detached accessory garage without any residential unit is exempt from demolition control but still needs a demolition building permit. The City's official Demolition Control webpage separately lists a $690 fee for the first residential building ($315 each additional) and says a complete demolition-control application usually receives a decision within up to 10 business days. Waterloo Building Standards referred verification of that separate administrative fee, timeline, potential additional charges and any credit/waiver to zoning@waterloo.ca; BuildRules sent a clarification October 29 (Gmail thread 1a1892a2ee8bdafb). These processes and fees are separate; do not promise that an entire house can be demolished or a permit issued within ten days. Waterloo lists demolishing all or part of a building, including interior demolition, as requiring a building permit.
City Building Standards October 29 written confirmation, backed by official Waterloo 2026 demolition-fee table. Separate approvals and fees may apply.
Confirmed as provincially mandated FIRST REVIEW period, not final permit issuance. The word 'addition' on the City demolition page is a known copy error.

Waterloo Building Standards confirmed the demolition-control prerequisite for proposed demolition of residential units. City publishes $690 first-building control fee and up to 10 business days for a complete control application; the zoning office is being asked to confirm the exact supplementary charge/timing.
Confirmed directly by Waterloo Building Standards October 29: a detached accessory garage without any residential unit is exempt from separate demolition control, not exempt from the demolition building permit.
